About Alijó

Alijó is a municipality in the Vila Real district of Portugal. The population in 2011 was 6,267, in an area of 169.10 km². The municipality is located in the north-central part of Portugal, in the subregion of the Douro. Alijó is bounded by the municipalities of Murça to the north, Boticas to the east, Vila Nova de Cerveira to the south, and Vila Real to the west. The mayor is Luís Miguel da Silva e Sousa. The municipal holiday is Easter Monday. Economy The economy of Alijó is mainly based on agriculture and livestock. The main crops are olives, vines, and wheat.
