About Caminha

Caminha is a town and municipality in the district of Viana do Castelo, northwestern Portugal. The town's name derives from the Latin word "caminus", meaning "path" or "way". Caminha is located on the Portuguese Way, a popular pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. The town is situated on the right bank of the River Minho, opposite the Spanish municipality of Valença. Caminha is known for its beaches, which are popular tourist destinations. The town is also home to the Caminha Museum, which houses a collection of Roman and pre-Roman artifacts.
