About Condeixa-a-Nova

Condeixa-a-Nova is a municipality in Portugal with a total area of ​​22.78 km2 and a population of 12,573 inhabitants. The municipality is composed of 10 parishes and is located in the district of Coimbra. The present Mayor is Vitor Manuel da Silva Pinto, elected by the Social Democratic Party. The municipal holiday is on September 8, in honor of Our Lady of Conception. Condeixa-a-Nova has a strategic position, 10 km from Coimbra, near the IC2 (which connects Lisbon to Porto) and the A13 (which connects Coimbra to Figueira da Foz). The municipality is crossed by the Mondego River, one of the most important rivers in Portugal, which has its source in the Serra da Estrela. Condeixa-a-Nova has a temperate climate with an average annual temperature of 14.5 ° C. The economy of the municipality is based on agriculture and livestock, with emphasis on wine production. There are also many industries, such as the ceramic industry and the furniture industry. Tourism is also an important sector, with many visitors coming to see the Romanesque churches and the Monastery of Santa Cruz.
