About Gondomar

Gondomar is a Municipality located in the District of Porto in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 139,493, in an area of ​​83.06 km². It is located on the north bank of the Douro River, opposite the city of Porto. It is the third most populous municipality in the Porto Metropolitan Area. The municipality is composed of 11 civil parishes: Antas, Cárquere, Gondomar (São Cristóvão e São Lourenço), Jovim, Macieira de Rates, Merufe, Paradanova, Paranhos, Reboreda, Rio Tinto and Vale de Cambra. The area of Gondomar has been inhabited since the Paleolithic. The municipality was created in 1836. Gondomar is known for its mudas, which are small pieces of land used for agriculture. The municipality is also home to the Museu de Arqueologia e Etnografia de Gondomar, which has a collection of items from the paleolithic to the present day.
