About Montemor-o-Velho

Montemor-o-Velho is a municipality in the district of Coimbra, Portugal. The population in 2011 was 24,930, in an area of 213.30 km². It had 17,288 eligible voters in 2006. The municipality includes several towns, villages and hamlets, including Celorico da Beira, Lousã, Miranda do Corvo, Montemor-o-Novo, São João da Pesqueira, Soure and Tábua. The present Mayor is Paulo Cabaço, elected by the Socialist Party. The municipal holiday is June 13. The municipality is crossed by the Mondego River. The Castle of Montemor-o-Velho, also known as the Castle of the Moors (Castelo dos Mouros), is a Portuguese castle located in the municipality of Montemor-o-Velho, in the district of Coimbra. It is classified as a National Monument.
