About Oeiras

Oeiras is a municipality in the western part of Lisbon Metropolitan Area, Portugal. With approximately 170,000 inhabitants, it is one of the largest municipalities in Portugal. The municipality's name derives from the river Oeiras, which flows through the municipal territory. Oeiras is an important industrial and commercial center of the Lisbon region. It has an international reputation in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, being the location of the largest cluster of these industries in Portugal, and one of the largest in Europe. The municipality is also home to several shopping centers and malls, prominent among them are Amoreiras Shopping Center, Colombo Shopping Center, El Corte Inglés, and Loures Shopping Center. The municipality is served by several stations of the Lisbon Metro and suburban railways. It is also the location of a major interchange station of those networks, the Sete Rios station.
