About Sertã

Situated in Central Portugal, the municipality of Sertã has much to offer those searching for a rural idyll. Portugal’s highest mountains are found in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park which covers part of the municipality, and the area is also home to the country’s largest lake, Lago Alqueva. Despite being landlocked, Sertã has a number of rivers running through it including the Zêzere – one of the main tributaries of the Tagus. The municipality is also famous for its many castles, including the imposing São Miguel de Taipas castle which overlooks the town of Sertã. The area around Sertã is ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling and birdwatching. In the winter, the Serra da Estrela attracts skiers and snowboarders from across Portugal and beyond.
